Writing Consistent Stories based on Structured Multi-Authored Narrative Spaces
نویسندگان
چکیده
Multi-authoring is currently a common practice in the field of contemporary storytelling but producing consistent stories that share a common narrative space when multiple authors are involved is not a trivial task. Inconsistencies, which are not always well-received by readers are sometimes expensive to fix. In this work we attempt to improve the consistency of stories and narrative spaces by introducing a set of rules based on a formal model. Such a model takes into account the reader’s concept of consistency in storytelling, and acts as a framework for building tools to construct stories grounded in a common narrative space with a reinforced sense of consistency. We define a model (the Setting) and deploy it through a tool (CrossTale); both based on previous research, and discuss some user evaluation, with an in-depth analysis of the results and their implications. 1998 ACM Subject Classification H.1.1 Systems and Information Theory, H.1.2 User/Machine Systems, H.5.1 Multimedia Information Systems, H.5.2 User Interfaces, H.5.4 Hypertext/Hypermedia, J.5 Arts and Humanities

Critical Thinking in Personal Narrative and Reflective Journal Writings by In-service EFL Teachers in Iran: Assessment of Reflective Writing
Recently, there is a need for fostering the critical reflective side of L2 teacher education. This study investigated the implications of personal narrative (PN) and reflective journal (RJ) writing for Iranian EFL teachers’ reflective writing. Sixty (36 women and 24 men) in-service secondary school EFL teachers were selected based on the convenience sampling from Iran. L2 teachers equally divid...
متن کاملCreating pedagogical spaces for developing doctor professional identity.
OBJECTIVES Working with doctors to develop their identities as technically skilled as well as caring, compassionate and ethical practitioners is a challenge in medical education. One way of resolving this derives from a narrative reflective practice approach to working with residents. We examine the use of such an approach. METHODS This paper draws on a 2006 study carried out with four family...
متن کاملWriting Stories with Help from Recurrent Neural Networks
Automated story generation has a long history of pursuit in artificial intelligence. Early approaches used hand-authored formal models of a particular story-world domain to generate narratives pertaining to that domain (Klein, Aeschlimann, and Balsiger 1973; Lebowitz 1985; Meehan 1977). With the advent of machine learning, more recent work has explored how to construct narrative models automati...

III This study was an attempt to determine the effect of task-based approach vs. traditional approach on the narrative and expository writing of the Iranian EFL learners. There were two control groups as well as two experimental ones in the current study. In the two control groups namely G1 and G2 narrative and expository writing were taught respectively using the traditiona...
متن کاملDemeter: An Implementation of the Marlinspike Interactive Drama System
Demeter is a text-based prototype game that demonstrates the Marlinspike architecture for producing computer-based interactive dramas. Marlinspike uses a top-down, directed approach to generating stories: a central drama manager agent responds to story-significant user actions by selecting the next scene to play from a pre-authored collection. This drama manager strives to explicitly reincorpor...
